Applying for juried Fellowships of The Civita Institute is currently closed. The next application period will be announced later in 2026. Better yet, register to receive The Civita Institute's quarterly newsletters here and receive information about the upcoming Fellowship application period in your inbox.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS - JURIED AND CREATIVE RETREAT FELLOWSHIPS

  • To apply for one or more Juried Fellowships, download and complete the Juried Fellowship Application here (fillable PDF).
  • To apply for a Creative Retreat Fellowship, download and complete the Creative Retreat Fellowship Application here (fillable PDF).
  • Download and complete the Visitor Conditions and Agreement Form (fillable PDF).
  • Describe how your Fellowship proposal responds to The Civita Institute’s Mission, Vision and Founding Principles. Click here to read more about them.
  • Provide an abstract of your proposal (250 words maximum).
  • Provide a detailed description of your proposal and your personal experience (500 words maximum).
  • Provide work samples (see Media Requirements, below) and a statement of their relevance to your proposal including a sample number, title of the sample, type of media, date of the sample, dimensions of the sample, and any other information about the work sample that is relevant to your proposed project.
  • Describe a deliverable(s) that you will provide to The Civita Institute’s Archive and Collections.
  • Two statements of support.
  • Completed application.
  • Application fee.

MEDIA REQUIREMENTS

Images:  Minimum: 0, Maximum: 5 (2 Mb max each image)

Audio:  Minimum: 0, Maximum: 3 (provide links)

Video:  Minimum: 0, Maximum: 3 (provide links)

Total Media:  Minimum: 0, Maximum 11

 

Submited files must be in PDF format. Please place all PDF files in a single, compiled Zip file appended with your last name, for example “2024 Fellowship Application_Jones” with a maximum single email transmital size of 20MB.

A COMPLETE APPLICATION INCLUDES:

  • A Fellowship Application, either for a Juried Fellowship(s) or a Creative Retreat Fellowship, fully completed, and signed as a PDF file.
  • An abstract of your proposed project (250-word max), as a PDF file.
  • Detailed summary of your proposal including personal information (500 words max), as a PDF file.
  • Required submital of media, as appropriate to your proposed project.
  • Two statements of support (500-word max each), with each supporter's email address and phone number, as a PDF file.
  • Application fee of $45 for 'Fellowship Application' level members or gratis for 'Individual' level, or better, members.

 

Please submit your complete application to Fellowships@civitainstitute.org with Subject: “Juried Fellowship Application_(your last name)” or to "Creative Retreat Fellowship Application_(your last name)".
